During the Podcast Hackathon project I worked with two other classmates to create a audio diary in the perspective of one of the characters in the book An Absolutely True Story About a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, the character that we based our research and project on was Mary Spirit. The story is narrated by a fourteen year old boy named Junior who grows up on an Indian Reservation with his mother, father, grandmother, sister, and best friend Rowdy. Throughout the book Junior faces complications in finding who he is when he goes against his tribe's wishes and attends a white school while trying to remain true to his culture. Investigating Mary, Junior's sister, gave me a different perspective on how to view Junior and the world he came from.
What I have learned from making this Podcast is how to organize pieces of information that make up the bigger picture of the podcast and the key components of figuring out the essentials of what should be said during a podcast, in this case, Mary's decision to leave her reservation and why.
